The Day The Doctor Prescribed Me God Part 2

The Day The Doctor Prescribed God Part 2

May. 7, 2018

My hands are gripping the steering wheel tight; knuckles white and heart racing.  I can’t seem to hear my kids in the backseat, the only sound is the thumping in my chest.  What the hell is happening to me?!  I quickly pull over to get myself composed…

Hey sweet mama! If you are here it is likely you have read The Day The Doctor Prescribed Me God Part 1.  If you haven’t you can do so by clicking here.  The sentence above is just a small glimpse into the back story of my struggle and why I walked into the doctors office 7 years ago for a cure to my anxiety, sadness and overwhelm.   Now I want to share with you some of the messages that came to me as I started leaning into God more during this time of struggle, so lets get straight to it!

As soon as I started rising 15 minutes before the kids to have a coffee, pray and read some encouraging bible passages, God started placing women onto my path that would encourage me beyond belief and at the exact moment I needed it most.  For instance,  I randomly met a female pastor a week later at the park with her kids, so I started attending that church and it felt good to be back into community.  A few months after that I would receive a random letter from a stranger reading:

“I know this is going to seem incredibly random, but I sense God asking me to send you this message.  I was praying the other night and was overwhelmed by an urgency to pray for you.  I have been praying for you since.  It’s not uncommon for God to put strangers on my heart to pray for.. but I don’t typically tell them.  Perhaps to encourage you to not grow tired, but to continue pouring love into your family?  God hears the cry of your heart.  You are a good mother and He will continue to bless you with wisdom, and patience as you seek Him and serve your family,.  I pray you find peace in him today.

How amazing and encouraging is that?! I never did get to see that Doctor again after the day that he prescribed me God, because shortly after I received a letter from the doctor’s office letting me know that he would be going back to South Africa.  I honestly feel like God put him right onto my path at the perfect time to remind me that sometimes in life the best prescription we need is a good dose of God.

During that time in my life my twin sister also encouraged me to start including 10 things I am grateful for each day into my journal.   A habit that had stuck and continues to put my life into perspective when I am feeling down.  I strongly suggest writing in a journal a little bit every day!! It’s so amazing to look back on my journals from years ago; seeing the ups and downs and finally seeing how God was working through it all. I love getting cute journals from Winners, Chapters and even the Dollar Store!

If I can, I  also want to encourage you to not struggle alone.  Remember even though you can’t see him, God is always there and a friend is only a call or email away!  Talking can be so healing.  Don’t suffer in silence.  If you need someone to talk to feel free to send me an email mama!

god, family, marriage, bible, not alone

He will not let you stumble and fall, the one who watches over you will not sleep.” -Psalm 121:3

Unbeknownst to myself in the years to come after the doctor prescribed me God I would face some pretty heavy struggles, but thankfully I was fully equipped with His strength to come face to face with it all.  I feel like that lonely place I was brought too, that place of desperation, taught me how strong I am in Christ.  Mamas, if you are weary and tired, go to the one who will give you true rest.  When you quiet your spirit, even if only for 5 minutes a day to start, God will start to guide you and you will start to notice Him all around.  It’s been 7 years since I went to the Doctor about my anxiety and overwhelm; 7 years since the day the doctor prescribed me God and for that day I will be forever grateful!

“…whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy.  For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed you will be strong in character and ready for anything.” James 1:2-4

Now that you all know a little about my backstory in the beginning of my motherhood journey, I absolutely cannot wait to start sharing some other routines and rhythms I have set up in my life to live more passionately and joyfully each day.  I’ve also learned more about how to set and create boundaries, so that I can leave room to be creative and just BREATH! So excited to slowly dive into all of this together! So much love to you mama!!
